Protecting my Identity and Personal Protection
Can I designate specific sites that are allowed to receive personal information?
Yes. You can select "Protect my personal information" or "Protect all my data" in the Basic Options tab of the CallingID control menu. You can view and change the list of sites you have approved to receiving personal information at any time.
Personal Information is any word or phrase you want CallingID to keep private. Any phrase listed in the Define Personal Information dialog will be considered private and CallingID will warn you when you try to submit that phrase to an untrustworthy site.
Keywords can be your address; bank account details; social security number; maiden name; phone numbers; etc. Credit card numbers need not be defined since CallingID detects them automatically. You can also list parts of words and even add a description of the data to help you remember what it means.
You may also add or remove sites that are approved to receive your keywords in the lower list.
Use the check box at the bottom of the window ('Sites approved to receive password are automatically approved to receive personal information') to signify there is no need to approve a site twice. If the option is not selected you will be prompted to approve a site separately for receiving passwords and for receiving other personal information.
Can
I
preset sites that should be blocked from receiving
information?
Yes. You can enter the sites in the list associated with the 'Sites blocked from receiving information' option in the Advance Options tab of the CallingID control menu.
This dialog prevents certain sites from receiving your information unintentionally.
Do I need to create a list of passwords and designated sites that are allowed to receive them?
No need to do anything. CallingID will warn you when you enter passwords and you will indicate whether it is OK. This will create the association list. You can edit this list or create a list through the "Protect my personal information" or "Protect all my data" in the Basic Options tab of the CallingID control menu. When you try to fill out a password field in a site that isn't listed you will be alerted.
Is there a way to approve sending password and personal information
to a site simultaneously
?
Yes. This is a default. If you want to separate the permission, deselect the 'Sites approved to receive password are automatically approved to receive personal information' option in the Basic Options tab of the CallingID control menu.
Can I configure so that I only get alerted when I am about to send data to non-verified sites?
Yes. Select 'Only protect me from non-verified sites' option in the Basic Options tab of the CallingID control menu. This eliminates any warnings or approval requests when sending data to verified sites.
Can I protect myself from sending any information to an unapproved site?
Yes. CallingID LinkAdvisor can be con
figured
to protect all data that you might send to a site by
using
the 'Protect my password/personal data/all my data' option in the Basic Options tab of the CallingID control menu. There are 3 levels of alerts: all data, personal data and passwords. The default is passwords and personal data.
Can CallingID LinkAdvisor show me if the form sends my information to several locations?
Yes. Many sites contain forms that send information to more than one location, database or site. There is a “show me all the sites that can receive information from a page I visit” setting in the Advanced Options accessed from the CallingID control menu (CallingID Icon in toolbar) that allows you to view the sites that will receive the information you are sending.
When this option is selected, the sites' information includes an indicator on the right in the CallingID toolbar. When you select the indicator all the sites that might receive data you enter are listed.
If you choose a site from the list, you can view its details. Also the cursor will be positioned in an input field that sends data to the selected site.
